Molti appassionati considerano “Lady in Satin” (Columbia CS-8048), l’ultimo grande album di Billie Holiday e lei stessa amava molto questo disco. Registrato a New York nel febbraio del 1958, poco più di un anno prima della sua morte, il disco ci presenta Billie Holiday con una voce priva dello smalto di un tempo, un po’ più rauca e meno estesa ma non per questo meno intensa. La cantante è qui accompagnata da Miles Davis, Urbie Green, Jack Green, J. J. Johnson, Tom Mitchell, Mal Waldron, Barry Galbraith, Milt Hinton e Osie Johnson fra gli altri. Come bonus di questa edizione è stato aggiunto l’album integrale “Stay With Me” (Verve MGV-8302), registrato nel 1955.
