Anche se Duke Ellington e Coleman Hawkins erano stati entrambi jazzisti noti fin dai primi anni Venti e hanno continuato ad avere successo fino alla loro morte, la loro unica registrazione insieme è stata l’album “Duke Ellington Meets Coleman Hawkins” (Impulse AS-26). L’album, registrato nel 1962, li vede affiancati da Ray Nance, Johnny Hodges, Harry Carney, Aaron Bell e Sam Woodyard. In questa nuova edizione è stato aggiunto come bonus un brano (“Solitude”) tratto dalla stessa sessione di registrazione, ma non incluso nell’LP originale.
